I have had 3M conspicuity markings on the TRUCKRIGHT Industry Vehicle (TIV) since the first one went on the road and do believe they can make a difference. I have heard stories of drivers involved in crashes where the other party simply “did not see” the very large truck!
Whilst it may be impossible to confirm having the tape fitted has prevented me from being involved in such a crash, I would far rather be seen, both figuratively and conspicuously and never suffer such an event, than be told “It isn’t cool” or “Doesn’t suit my truck” etc.
My firm belief is that even with the rear marker plates on trucks, fitting conspicuity tape on the rear, side and even front of trucks, must improve the ability to be seen first. For the same reason the TIV has Daytime Running Lights fitted to the front.
Cars parked on the side of the road with no lights and little reflective capacity can be a terror to drivers at night and is an area I believe should be improved for the future.
Thank you and Safe Travelling, Rod Hannifey, TRUCKRIGHT. |
